Jimmy Walker put Rickie Fowler on his back for the second nine of their Friday morning fourballs match against U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer and Thomas Bjorn. It was Walker who won two of the last three holes to earn a pivotal half-point for the Americans.
Walker's score was the better of his team for the final 10 holes of the round, including birdies on the par 5s at 16 and 18, including a match-saving, chip-in on the 16th hole.
Bjorn and Kaymer each had birdie looks on the last hole to secure the whole point, but neither could make tricky putts. It was then up to Walker to calm sink the 8-footer to earn the half-point.
Walker and Fowler will go out again in the afternoon foursomes session, taking on Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia.
