In early December, I headed to San Diego to interview Dustin Johnson in all things golf related. He had finished up a strong 2010, and we chatted about his wins, and his goals and the PGA Championship.
But Johnson wasn't there to talk to me. He was there to test out the new TaylorMade R11, the white-headed driver that has the golf world a-buzzin'. When the TaylorMade people told me they had a left-handed model for me to hit, I had an idea ... challenge Dustin to a wrong-handed long-drive contest.
Problem was, I stood no chance. After his first swing lefty, I knew I couldn't get it out that far right-handed (Full disclosure: I'm a lefty, but did end up hitting one righty about 240 a while later. Still, it wouldn't have even sniffed Dustin's drive left-handed).
We've all heard about Dustin's athleticism, but this is the stuff that legitimizes it. He hit a drive, uphill and into the wind, nearly 290 yards left-handed. That's insane.
