Another weekend, another playoff. See, golf? This is what happens when your superstars either don't play or don't play well. Anyway, this weekend's FedEx St. Jude Classic ended the same way last year's did: with a gag on 18 and a playoff misfire by Robert Karlsson, though with some slight differences.
Recall last year, when Robert Garrigus coughed up a three-shot lead on the final hole and lost in a playoff to Karlsson and eventual winner Lee Westwood. This year's fumble wasn't quite as bad, for several reasons. Harrison Frazar had only a single-shot lead, but he still pulled his approach shot into the water next to the 18th green and, hey presto, that lead was gone.
Karlsson once again took the playoff matchup deep, and once again fell just short. Frazar was just that much better. As always, if this happened only one week later at the U.S. Open, we'd be talking about it for years to come. For now, though, this just means Frazar gets into The Masters next year ... and Karlsson continues to wonder why Memphis hates him so much.
