Showdown, Week 19: Adam Scott vs. Ben Crane

So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into tournaments, and because we're both inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Shane Bacon and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points. And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. This week: we're heading for the Island Green, baby!

Bacon: I never thought I'd actually type these words, but for my Players pick, I'm going with A ... Ada ... ADAM SCOTT! Yep, the '04 champion at Sawgrass has played great this season, with a sixth place finish at Doral followed by a near win at Augusta. He knows this course well, and can definitely compete, but I think as we've seen in years past at the Players, guessing who wins this thing is like trying to birdie the 18th (and yes, I'm looking at you Craig Perks).

Busbee: I'm ... going ... with ... Ben Crane. Yes, Mr. Snake Shaker takes as long as frozen syrup to get through a course, but when he does, he does so effectively. Sure, he'll cause a 10-pairing backup at the 17th, but so what? He's got top-10s and cashes here, and that's good enough for me.

Last week: Bacon's pick of Justin Rose threw up a pair of 69s to finish at -6 at Quail Hollow, while Busbee's Anthony Kim MDF'ed (most disappointing finish, I'd say) and was not invited to play the final round. Alas.

Overall record: Busbee 11, Bacon 10.
