Rain washes out all hope of playing the Hope, for now

"Rain, rain, go away, we want to watch some golf today."

That is the humorous, albeit juvenile, text I received this afternoon from a former mini-tour golfing friend of mine who's stuck in the bitter cold of the north, while we in the desert (I am stationed in Phoenix; the tournament is three hours to my west) are getting weather that brings to mind a certain R.E.M. song when you look outside.

The Bob Hope was rained out completely on Thursday with Shane Bertsch still leading after a Wednesday 62, but that doesn't mean we can't remember the fun that was the 2009 Hope.

Pat Perez was the winner, and it was capped by this eagle on the 18th, after his second shot nestled three feet from the pin. It was the shot of the tournament, and I can promise you this -- you wanted to be hanging with that guy after the win. He has fun like you and I dream of.

Hopefully golf will be around on Friday, but with the current weather situation, it wouldn't surprise me if it got rained out as well.
