Right place, right time, right win for Brandt Snedeker

Well, it could have been worse for Luke Donald on Sunday at the Heritage. Donald could have sputtered his way out of the tournament in regulation and not forced a playoff. But Donald only prolonged the agony an extra three holes before falling to Brandt Snedeker.

Now, golf history is full of players who happened to be in the right place when someone collapses and vomits up a trophy. (Paul Lawrie, we're looking at you.) But Snedeker set himself up perfectly here, closing with a Sunday 64 (always nice) and out-putting for most of the day, like so:

Snedeker was six strokes better than Donald on the final day, posting a -7 to Donald's -1. Still, if Donald had even managed to pick up one more birdie out there on the course, he'd have the tartan jacket all to his own. But, as we discussed Sunday, closing has been a bit of a problem for the lad.

But let's not take anything away from Snedeker, who's now got his second win on the Tour and his first since 2007. Best known so far this year as the guy who nearly missed his kid's birth because of golf, he's now got some new apparel for his wardrobe. Just don't let the kid spit up on that sweet jacket, Brandt; it may be the last of its kind.
