Golf Week reports that Norman's Stripe Group has purchased Valderrama and an adjacent property in Sotogrande, Spain, from current owner Soto Properties. The deal has not yet closed; the selling price wasn't disclosed, and we're too polite to ask again.
Valderrama is one of Spain's preeminent courses, having hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup and the recent Andalucia Masters. Norman's group plans to develop the adjacent property, further strengthening its golf presence in Europe.
Valderrama was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1974. Soto Properties purchased the club in 1985.
Reports that Norman plans to buy Augusta National and bulldoze it down to the Georgia clay remain unconfirmed.
