The user’s guide to two-start pitchers, Week 12

Wade Miley is eventually going to disappoint us if we keep rolling him out there in fantasy leagues, but that's true of many starters. He's having great luck on balls-in-play (.250 BABIP), his strikeout rate is less than ideal (5.85 K/9), and there's little in his minor league history that suggests he'll be able to sustain his current ratios (2.39 ERA, 1.04 WHIP). To his credit, however, he's not issuing many free passes (2.0 BB/9) and he's keeping the ball on the right side of the fence (3 HR in 75.1 IP).

This seems like the wrong week to bet on a heaping dose of regression from Miley, because he gets home match-ups with the Mariners and Cubs, a pair of last-place teams that rank in the bottom-third of MLB in run-scoring. So the Bauer-blocking is likely to continue (and Trevor didn't really help his own cause in his last start anyway). Miley is still available in 40 percent of Yahoo! leagues, so a few of you can make the add, as needed.

For the usual weekend display of two-start SPs, please continue beyond the jump. There aren't many to choose from this week, and many of the names are sketchy, so proceed with caution.

Total confidence

Matt Cain — at LAA (Williams), at OAK (Milone)
Lance Lynn — at DET (Porcello), at KC (Sanchez)
Cole Hamels — COL (Outman), TB (Price)
RA Dickey — BAL (Arrieta), NYY (Sabathia)

Almost total confidence

Wade Miley — SEA (Noesi), CHC (Garza)
Matt Garza — at CWS (Peavy), at ARI (Miley)
Aaron Harang — at OAK (Milone), at LAA (Williams)

Well...I like him more than you guys do, apparently. And this week isn't too scary

Mat Latos — at CLE (Lowe), MIN (Diamond)

OK, I'd think about it...

JA Happ — KC (Sanchez), CLE (Lowe)
Mark Buehrle — at BOS (Buchholz), TOR (Alvarez)

...but this is where I draw the line. No thank you

Kevin Correia — MIN (Diamond), DET (Porcello)
Chien-Ming Wang — TB (Price), at BAL (Arrieta)
Jason Marquis — TEX (Harrison), SEA (Noesi)
Randy Wolf — TOR (Alvarez), at CWS (Peavy)
Josh Outman — at PHI (Hamels), at TEX (Harrison)
Mike Minor — at NYY (Sabathia), at BOS (Buchholz)

Do it. No need to ask an expert for permission

Jake Peavy — CHC (Garza), MIL (Wolf)
David Price — at WAS (Wang), at PHI (Hamels)
CC Sabathia — ATL (Minor), at NYM (Dickey)

Do it. But I can see why you might have some lingering doubts

Clay Buchholz — MIA (Buehrle), ATL (Minor)
Scott Diamond — at PIT (Correia), at CIN (Latos)
Matt Harrison — at SD (Marquis), COL (Outman)

Dude is Cy Young at home, Anthony Young on the road

Tommy Milone — LAD (Harang), SF (Cain)

No Ks here, but you might get a win

Henderson Alvarez — at MIL (Wolf), at MIA (Buehrle)
Derek Lowe — CIN (Latos), at HOU (Happ)

I've got all three of these guys in my AL-only rotation, which, in hindsight, was a terrible idea. I'm [expletive] terrified this week

Rick Porcello — STL (Lynn), at PIT (Correia)
Jonathan Sanchez — at HOU (Happ), STL (Lynn)
Hector Noesi — at ARI (Miley), at SD (Marquis)

Somehow I don't own these guys in AL-only, but they'd clearly fit right in with my squad

Jerome Williams — SF (Cain), LAD (Harang)
Jake Arrieta — at NYM (Dickey), WAS (Wang)
