Throwing Darts: Chasing the Eagles in Buffalo

It's time to make five picks agains the number, amigos. The choices are limited in Period 5 as we head into bye-week season. The three dogs came easily to me on this card, the two favorites a little harder, but that doesn't always mean anything.

As always, I welcome you to make your own five selections and list them in the comments. Defend your picks if you can, and for the love of all things holy, if you're going to bash my picks, you gotta give a reason. Further the conversation, capper.

All lines are drawn from Yahoo! Pro Football Pick'em. If you're going to play along, please go there.

Eagles -2.5 at Bills: The Eagles never have trouble moving the ball, but they're the ultimate attention-to-detail fail. A red-zone botch here, a short-yardage miscue there, ill-fated turnovers, etc. But how is the shoddy Buffalo defense going to account for all of Philly's team speed? If Michael Vick can protect the ball, the Eagles should have no trouble scoring 30 or more points.{ysp:more}

Jets +9 at Patriots: This one has been on the radar all week. No one can feel that confident about stopping the Pats offense, but the Jets defense presents the toughest matchup. And don't blame New York's defense for the Baltimore debacle; that was all on Mark Sanchez. Is Rex Ryan silly enough to go ahead with ground and pound? The New England secondary is there for the taking; even Chad Henne shredded these guys. Gotta take the generous spot.

Raiders +6 at Texans: Okay, the Texans should run all over the messy Oakland rushing defense, but the Raiders can move the ball - and move some bodies - with their own ground attack. And Houston's passing game doesn't scare anyone with Andre Johnson out of the mix. The junkyard dog Raiders can keep this close.

Vikings -2.5 vs. Cardinals: Mostly it's about distrust of the Cardinals, especially on the road. Jared Allen can still crash the pocket, and Kevin Kolb has a long way to go before he's comfortable in his new offense. Giving less than three with any home favorite is forever tempting.

Falcons +6 vs. Packers: I really hate going against the Packers in any week - the Green Bay offense is a treat to watch. But the Falcons play better at home (last year's playoff shellacking to the side) and everyone is scoring on the Green Bay defense this year. Go get Matt Ryan for fantasy; the Falcons are morphing into a pass-heavy team. The Dirty Birds will hang around.

Last Week: 2-3 (10-7-3 season)
Last Year: 49-34
