If you were to inspect the desk of Vikings' head coach Brad Childress, you'd probably find a Post-it with the following note:
Things to try...
1) Trade for Brett
3) Fix Tarvaris
4) Start Gus
As you can see, we're down to Option No. 4.
Here's the essential quote:
Childress said Frerotte would be the starter for the remainder of the season.
This isn't exactly bad news for Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice owners, although both receivers are dealing with injuries at the moment (toe, PCL). Frerotte has a strong arm, but, like Jackson, he's never been particularly accurate (54.2 career completion percentage). Minnesota is clearly a team that intends to run. They're second in the NFC in rushing yards per game, and they're third in carries.
So even in deep leagues, Frerotte is a situational fantasy starter at best. Weeks 3 and 4 are not at all promising (CAR, @TEN), but Weeks 5 and 6 look OK (@NO, DET).
Meanwhile, team owner Zygi Wilf has extended a blanket vote of confidence to Vikings everywhere.
