The Red Sox promoted gigantic 23-year-old Justin Masterson for a start on Thursday, then sent him right back to Double-A Portland. This all happened so quickly that you might have missed it.
Masterson pitched six innings against the Angels, allowing only one run and two hits while striking out four. He also walked four hitters and recorded 11 outs via ground balls. There's little doubt he has a Major League sinker.
All things considered, it wasn't a such bad debut for one of Boston's more interesting prospects. You'll want to keep him in mind in head-to-head leagues, as Masterson could get a few useful spot-starts late in the season.
If you're a dynasty league participant, you're anxious to see Masterson enter the Yahoo! player pool. In four starts for the Sea Dogs, he has a 0.95 ERA. He's struck out 23 and walked five in 19.0 innings.
Worth noting: Yeah, I'd rather own Scherzer.
