Court Report: Zach Randolph dodges a bullet?

Zach Randolph left Sunday's game with a knee injury that appears to have looked worse than it actually turned out to be. Z-Bo crumpled to the court after O.J. Mayo fell into his left knee early in the first quarter, but the Grizzlies are calling him day-to-day with a knee contusion and have scheduled what is merely being termed a "precautionary" MRI for Tuesday. It appears that Randolph has avoided major injury here, but we'll need to await the results of that MRI before we can call him free and clear. The Grizzlies play a back-to-back on Tuesday (SAC) and Wednesday (@MIN) and it seems unlikely that he'll appear in either of those games. Dante Cunningham and Josh Davis would see surplus minutes during any games that Z-Bo misses, and Marc Gasol's role will grow exponentially for what would be a desperately thin frontcourt.

• Tyrus Thomas continues to rehab from his ankle sprain and the Bobcats are hopeful that he can play sometime this week. Thomas will come off the bench behind D.J. White when he does return, and Paul Silas said that "Tyrus is going to have to show that he can play better" before a promotion to the starting five would be considered. White scored 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting on Sunday, but it's worth noting that he also only had three boards in 27 minutes and the Bobcats lost by 39 points. Thomas can certainly make a fantasy impact without starter's minutes, so this isn't a reason to purge him from your rosters, but clearly this injury has removed a bit of his early preseason shine. He has the potential to come in around 12/6/1/2 in under 30 minutes, and playing against second units won't hurt his chances at numbers. Of course, the first thing he needs to do is get back on the court.

Other status updates: Amar'e Stoudemire (ankle) is doubtful for Monday's game but will officially be a game-time decision .. David Lee was not in Warriors' lineup Monday because of illness serious enough to put him in the hospital .. Eric Gordon (knee) isn't expected to play Monday, with the team "making sure it's right" before allowing him to return to game action .. Mike Conley's sprained left ankle has improved to the point that he expects to return to the Grizzlies' lineup on Tuesday .. Michael Beasley had a dramatic reaction to the finger laceration he sustained on Sunday but needed only five stitches and may not miss any games as a result .. Jerryd Bayless (ankle) will sit out again Monday and be re-evaluated on Tuesday.

• The Demarcus Cousins saga continues to develop. The Kings are saying that they've got no interest in trading him, Cousins and his agent met with team officials Monday, and reports are that he traveled with the team for their two-game road trip as part of a back-to-back-to-back set. It remains unclear as to when Paul Westphal will see fit to get Cousins back on the active roster or how this situation is ultimately resolved, but what is clear is that Westphal deserves his share of the blame for the fracas.
