Bryce Harper engaged to longtime girlfriend Kayla Varner

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is still recovering from surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, but not all is bad in his world right now. According to CSN Washington, Harper recently became engaged to his longtime girlfriend Kayla Varner, and on Friday afternoon a number of the couples engagement photos temporarily leaked on social media to serve as proof.

The photos have since been removed from the Mollie Jane Photography website, but not before
they were captured by the Big Lead. Hey, we can't help but be a little bit nosey too when it comes to the athletes we follow, and there's no doubt these photos have created quite a buzz.

The photos definitely have an all american theme to them. Many of the shots were taken at various landmarks around Washington D.C., and a few were even taken inside Nationals Park, Harper's home ballpark. Surprisingly, though, no real references to Las Vegas, at least in the shots that were published. Both Harper and Varner are natives of Sin City.

It's a pretty amazing life that young Mr. Harper has carved out for himself. At 21, most of us were still looking for our direction in life. Harper has not only known his direction for a long time as the No. 1 draft pick in 2010 MLB draft, he's achieved great success as a Rookie of the Year in 2012 and two-time all-star selection.

Varner herself is also an accomplished athlete. She's currently a junior at Ohio State University where she plays soccer. She spent her freshman and sophomore years playing at Brigham Young University. That obviously bodes well if they ever decide to have children. In fact, somewhere Rick Reilly is already preparing a welcome letter.

The coolest thing though is that they're obviously both happy, in love, and prepared to take their next big steps in life together as husband and wife. It doesn't get any better than that, and we wish them continued happiness as they continue their journey together.
