Kirby Dach undergoes wrist surgery, could miss entire season originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Blackhawks announced Monday evening that center Kirby Dach underwent surgery on his right wrist and is expected to be out four-to-five months.

The regular season is scheduled to wrap up on May 8, meaning Dach will miss most of the 2020-21 campaign and potentially all of it. The news comes less than a week after the team announced forward Alex Nylander would four-to-six months with a knee injury.

It's a brutal loss for the Blackhawks, who were preparing to give Dach a significant role this season. He logged the second-most ice time among team forwards in the postseason with an average of 19:24, trailing only Patrick Kane (22:29).

Dach, who was named captain of Team Canada, suffered the injury on Dec. 23 in the exhibition opener of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship after he collided with a Russian player at center ice.
