Bills re-sign Ike Boettger to one-year deal
The Buffalo Bills have gotten on the board with a re-signing.
The team announced on Friday that offensive lineman Ike Boettger was re-signed. It’s a one-year deal.
Boettger, 28, was on the Bills in 2022 but spent the majority of the year rehabbing from an Achilles injury he suffered the year prior.
Before that injury, Boettger was starting for Buffalo. He made nine-straight starts and then was replaced in the lineup by Ryan Bates.
Bates’ efforts earned him an offer sheet from the Chicago Bears last offseason which was matched by the Bills. Bates remains in Buffalo under that four-year deal.
Because of the Bills’ salary cap restraints and likely desire to improve on the interior of the offensive line, Buffalo bringing Boettger under a short-term deal makes plenty of sense.
The Bills will likely involve Boettger in the summer competition for a starting spot at guard. Along with Bates starting last season, so was Rodger Saffold, who is a pending free agent.
Boettger also has versatility to play center, which makes him an asset as a backup to Mitch Morse.
Boettger entered the NFL with the Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent. He briefly spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs but later returned to Buffalo.
