This is a different Buffalo Bills defense than most of us were expecting coming into the season. With what happened last year under Rex Ryan, the defense looked liked a disaster and when Sean McDermott came into town, who knew how the defense was going to be this season. It’s a completely different secondary than last year and a new scheme as compared to the last two years.
In the first three weeks, the defense has helped carry the team. They currently lead the league in fewest amount of points given up and they have only allowed two touchdowns. With a secondary of Tre’Davious White, Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde and E.J. Gaines, this secondary has held its ground and produced.

While the secondary has help its part of the end up, the defensive line and linebacker core has done an amazing job against their three opponents that they’ve faced. The defense has ten sacks as of right now and four interceptions. They have contained the running game of opposing offenses’ and haven’t let a team go wild in the passing game.
Now they will have their biggest test of the season against Matt Ryan and his mighty Falcons offense.
When Kyle Shanahan left Atlanta during the offseason to become the 49ers head coach, I thought about how the Falcons offense may decrease in production. With the hire of Steve Sarkisian from the University of Alabama, the Falcons offense is still going strong. They are putting up at least three touchdowns every game and will look to continue their dominance and move to 4-0.
Can the Bills defense hold off the Falcons?
I’m not saying it will be easy, but it’s definitely possible. Very possible. Yes, the Falcons are a high scoring offense both in the passing and running game but this Bills defense could shock the league by causing trouble for the Falcons. If the Buffalo defense does their part, Tyrod Taylor can lead his Bills offense and put points on the board. The better the defense plays against Matt Ryan, the better chances the Bills will have to beat the Falcons.
