Who is the Bills’ best value draft pick in the PFF era?

The Buffalo Bills have had a series of good selections over the past few NFL drafts.

Their current front office led by general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have done a bang up job in drafting and developing their own players.

There have been none better than Josh Allen. You need a quarterback and the Bills got theirs.

Pro Football Focus might have an eye for the fancy stats and analytics. They don’t worry about such things here.

Allen was PFF’s selection the Bills’ “best value draft pick” since the outlet’s existence began in 2006.

Here’s the breakdown:

Move over Kyle Williams, as defensive tackle value doesn’t come close to that of a franchise quarterback. Allen’s 7.16 WAR over the past two seasons ranks third in the entire NFL — not bad for the third quarterback selected in his draft class.

Williams was previously Buffalo’s selection in this category for PFF, just sliding into their era of existence. Williams was a fifth-round pick (134) way back in 2006.

Williams put together 13 strong years for the Bills–But his importance does not mirror that of Allen’s. The NFL today has changed into a game that relies on the quarterback more than ever before.

However, Allen and Williams are just two examples of times when the Bills got it right.

Aside from them, other Buffalo draft picks that could fall into this category or close to it include linebacker Matt Milano (Round 5, 2017), cornerback Taron Johnson (Round 4, 2018), or even Tre’Davious White, who was a first-round selection, but in a trade back, the Bills earned a future Round 1 pick and still got the All-Pro corner.
