Chicago(IL) Phillips junior tight end/defensive end recruit Jahleel Billingsly (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) and the Wildcats (4-0) are off to a strong start this season. Billingsly also has drawn more and more college contact so far this month and recaps his season, his latest recruiting news and more here.
"We are playing pretty well," Billingsly said. "We play Vocational on Friday and then I'm going top make a college game day visit on Saturday."
Billingsly filled us in non his Saturday college game day visit plans.
"I'm heading down to Purdue for the game against Michigan. My first offer was from Purdue and I've stayed in touch with the coaches ever since they offered me. I might also try to get to Cincinnati for a game day visit sometime in October but I don't have anything else set up. It's hard to get away because of our schedule so I'll need to miss some college games."
Billingsly also continues to draw more and more recruiting interest.
"Cincinnati is the latest school to contact me. I've also been in touch lately with Penn State, Louisville and Michigan State are the latest schools to reach out to me. They all just want to get to know me better and they all want me to come visit them this season."
Billingsly has also played at multiple positions so far this season, including defensive back. Defensive back? A 6-foot-5, 230 pound defensive back?
"I take reps at defensive back in practice and the coaches finally had me play some defensive back when we played Simeon. I never played defensive back before but I'm pretty fast and physical. I ended up playing defensive back for almost 3 quarters and we shut out Simeon 14-0 so it went pretty well."
So how has Billingsly played in his mind so far this season?
"I'd give myself an A so far. I'm not scoring as much as I'd like but I'm focused on doing my job and helping my team win. I've played a lot of tight end, some defensive end and some defensive back."
