Why Simmons wouldn't trade Wiggins, lottery picks for Siakam originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Bill Simmons and Ryen Russillo back in mid-March discussed a hypothetical trade between the Warriors and Toronto Raptors.

The parameters were Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves' top-three protected 2021 first-rounder in exchange for Pascal Siakam.

Russillo on Thursday asked Simmons if he would trade Wiggins and the No. 7 and No. 14 overall picks in this month's draft for Siakam.

"I don't think I would. I don't think the upgrade from Wiggins to Siakam is worth two more rotation guys, because I think I can get two really good guys at seven and 14," Simmons explained. "I think I could get two guys who could play for me next year."

Simmons then said what he hopes to see Golden State do this offseason.

"I want the Warriors to keep [James] Wiseman, keep Wiggins, take seven, take 14, bring Klay [Thompson] back, sign-and-trade [Kelly] Oubre for something, and they'll have nine guys next year that can play basketball."

If the Warriors go that route, they also can improve the roster via the $5.9 million taxpayer mid-level exception and perhaps sign a couple veterans on minimum contracts.

Ultimately, they really want to see Steph Curry have a real shot at winning the title in 2021-22.

"We are very invested in Steph Curry next season," Simmons added. "I just want them to surround him with good NBA players who don't suck. Give him eight teammates who can hang in a playoff game."
