Bill Belichick on Dont’a Hightower: ‘One of our best players’

After missing the 2020 season as a COVID-19 optout, New England Patriots linebacker Dont’a Hightower is back helping the linebacker unit. On the year, Hightower has recorded 26 tackles. He recorded three tackles against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. As the Patriots reach the midpoint of the season, Hightower looks to continue to progress.

The nine-year veteran has been a mainstay on the Patriots defense, anchoring the linebackers. With Hightower leading a deep unit, head coach Bill Belichick has taken notice of Hightower’s impact since his return. Here’s what Belichick said during a press conference on Wednesday.

“He’s been good for us all year. One of our most consistent players. One of our best players. Smart player. Helps control the defense. Rarely out of position. Physical. Contact player. Thumper. Think he’s been solid all year.”

As the Patriots enter a tough portion of their schedule, New England will need his steadfast defensive presence as they look to make a playoff push.
