Big 12 Softball standings after first weekend of conference play
The first weekend of Big 12 play saw the top of the conference hold serve as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas each pulled off three-game sweeps on the opening weekend of Big 12 play.
There were a few tight ball games in Austin, Ames, and Stillwater, but the talent among the teams ranked in the top 10 was too much for Baylor, Texas Tech, and Iowa State, who dropped to 0-3 in Big 12 play.
This week features more intriguing matchups, headlined by the top 10 clash between Oklahoma and Texas. The Red River Rivals will meet at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in a rematch of last year’s Women’s College World Series championship.
Here’s a look at the updated standings ahead of week two in Big 12 play.

The Sooners outscored the Iowa State Cyclones 26-3, picked up two run-rule wins and two shutouts in the three game sweep. Grace Lyons led the way at the plate, hitting .600 with two home runs and four RBIs and Alex Storako and Jordy Bahl threw shutouts over the weekend.
The Sooners welcome a huge test to Oklahoma City for a rematch of the College World Series championship series in 2022. The Texas Longhorns arrive in OKC fresh off of a three-game sweep of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Big 12: 3-0
vs. top 25: 10-1
Oklahoma State continues to look like the biggest threat to the Oklahoma Sooners Big 12 crown after their three game sweep of the Baylor Bears. They got to Baylor ace Doriana Orme for four runs in 2.2 innings pitched. Those four runs came after Baylor put together a five-run second inning. Then Kelly Maxwell did what Kelly Maxwell does and slammed the door.
Oklahoma State’s ace through 6.2 innings of scoreless ball in relief to help the Cowgirls pick up the win in extra innings.
Oklahoma State then scored five more off of Orme in the Saturday matchup in their 5-0 win.
Oklahoma State picked up a midweek win over Tulsa on Wednesday night in extra innings 3-1. They’ll face Incarnate Word on Saturday during their Big 12 bye week.

Big 12: 3-0
vs. top 25: 2-3-1
The Texas Longhorns had to battle in the first two of their three-game series against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, picking up one-run wins on Friday and Saturday. The Sunday affair wasn’t as close as the Longhorns won 8-3.
A top 10 matchup with the Oklahoma Sooners in USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium. It’s a venue the Longhorns are familiar with as College World Series runner-ups a year ago.

Big 12: 0-3
vs. top 25: 2-4
Baylor became a team to watch after their 4-3 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in February. They went into Stillwater and were swept. The Friday matchup was an 11-inning thriller that the Bears lost 6-5. The final two games weren’t as kind with Oklahoma State beating Baylor by a combined score of 10-1.
Doriana Orme struggled against the Cowgirls lineup, giving up nine runs in 7.2 innings pitched in two starts against Oklahoma State.
Baylor is in the midst of a dogfight with Texas State in San Marcos on Wednesday evening. They tied it up in the seventh to send it to extra innings and took the lead in the eighth to get the win.
The Bears host 17-12 Kansas to open the Jayhawks’ Big 12 schedule.

It went about as well as one would expect for the Iowa State Cyclones against the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners. The Cyclones played Oklahoma tough in the Friday matchup, losing 3-0. On Saturday, however, Iowa State was outscored 23-3.
The Cyclones travel to Texas Tech to face a Red Raiders team that’s also 0-3 to start Big 12 play.
