Betting: Underdogs are making you money this season

Minty Bets breaks down whether you should put your money on underdogs going forward after 3 weeks of the NFL season.

MINTY BETS: Welcome to "The Mint," everyone, a sports-betting show where we're not trying to make you money. We're just trying to make sure you don't lose it all. I'm Minty Bets, and today we need to talk about underdogs.

- Dogs sure are great.

MINTY BETS: Three weeks into the NFL season, and we've seen money continuously pour in on the favorites to cover the spread. There's absolutely nothing wrong with betting the favorite, especially if the bet hits. I do it all the time. But I'm noticing that sometimes the dogs get neglected. I mean, how can you not like dogs--

- I love dogs too.

MINTY BETS: --especially underdogs? How can you not have faith in the division dog, the ugly dog, even the hot dog?

- Foot long. Who's got the foot long?

MINTY BETS: Those are the dogs that not only cover but win straight up.

Here's a PSA. Underdogs are covering more than the favorite. Out of 16 weekly games, 9 have covered in weeks 2 and 3 and 11 covered in week 1. I know it's embarrassing to tell your friends that you're betting against teams like the Ravens, Chiefs, and Steelers, but there are times when teams like the Lions, Chargers, and Bengals can cover and upset the favorite.

- Very true.

MINTY BETS: So let's start to embrace these ugly dogs. Rescue them, if you will. And remember that even though a good team can win every week, it's important to ask ourselves if they can cover every week as well.

I'm Minty Bets, and this has been "The Mint."
