Betting: Will Suns upset Lakers tonight?

Jared Quay gives his picks for the Nets-76ers and Suns-Lakers games on the NBA slate for Friday October 22.

Video Transcript

JARED QUAY: Jared Quay here and there's a lot of NBA action on the slate. My two favorite games are two big ones. My first one is the Brooklyn Nets traveling to Philly to take on the Sixers. The schedule has been brutal for the Nets.

They're opening the season two games on the road against two of the best teams in the East. They only scored 104 points in the game one. They have a much better offense, but they did shoot 50% from the free throw line. Meanwhile, I think this Sixers team is for real.

Even without Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid is playing at MVP level and I just don't see the Nets having the interior defenders to slow him down. You give me the Sixers as a dog? I'll take a money line. Yes, the Nets probably will win the championship, but they're having a rough two weeks to start the season.

My next game is the Phoenix Suns traveling to LA to take on the Lakers. The Lakers are still figuring it out. Their shot selection in game one was terrible. 41% of their shots were from three, which is more than last year.

Meanwhile, they don't have many 3-point shooters. Don't get me wrong, the GOAT is getting better at it, but that's not their game plan. They're taking on the Suns team that lost game one, but that's because Devin Booker had a terrible game.

You can't expect that to happen twice. This is still all the core parts from the team that went to the championship last year. Meanwhile, DeAndre Ayton just gives the Lakers interior a lot of problems. Some of them might get in foul trouble like Davis, which means I have to take the Suns here.

Might as well take a money line because plus one really doesn't do much for you. And if you're jumping on the NBA action today, take advantage of our risk free bet for new users up to $1,000. Go to BetMGM.com/Yahoo.
