Minty Bets and Ariel Epstein break down which MLB teams are trending up and which are trending down this week.
MINTY BETS: It's time for our weekly "MLB Stock Up, Stock Down" segment, where we're telling you who we're riding and who we're fading in baseball. I'm Minty Bets, and joining me, as always, is Ariel Epstein. Ariel, why don't you start us off and tell us who you're stocking up on?
ARIEL EPSTEIN: Minty, I'm stocking up on the Milwaukee Brewers. This line for them to win the National League Central is only minus-135. Earlier in the season, Milwaukee was at minus-165 to win this division. You're getting great value, considering the Brewers are a game and a half behind the current leaders, the St. Louis Cardinals.
Milwaukee's bats have been struggling. I'm waiting for one of their former MVPs in Christian Yelich to start heating up. He had a little bit of a slump after hitting for the cycle. Yet Yelich has a hot bat. And when it gets there, the lineup is going to start moving up in that OPS rankings where they're sitting at 24th right now.
I also love that the Brewers have a great starting rotation. They have a National League Cy Young winner in Corbin Burnes. Plus their bullpen has some of the best relievers, including the best closer in the league in Josh Hader.
This Milwaukee team is gonna heat up at some point. I'm going with them. That minus-135 is great value for them to win the National League Central. So I'm stocking up on them.
MINTY BETS: I like that. I am stocking up on the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, they've been pretty hot this month, having only lost two games. Now, in the last two weeks alone, they rank fourth in batting average and OPS.
The only thing is their relief pitching could use a little bit of work as they have the 10th-worst bullpen ERA. But I believe what they lack in defense, they should make up offensively. Now, Ariel, who are you stocking down on?
ARIEL EPSTEIN: I'm stalking down on the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians are in second place of the American League Central. Yet BetMGM still has them ranked third in the odds at plus-475 to win this division. The Guardians, in the second half of the year, have a really tough schedule.
They open things up. They've got to face the Chicago White Sox, the Boston Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Houston Astros, all within those first four to five weeks of the second half of the year starting on July 22. This team also in Cleveland has been struggling to hit the ball. It's really been a bottom-10 OPS team most of the season, especially in the last 30 days.
Cleveland also is being led by their starting pitching. I mean, their pitching is what's keeping them in the mix, being top 10 in team ERA, top 10 in starting rotation, top 10, bullpen. You can't win without being able to hit.
And I just don't have much faith in this guardians lineup, aside from one of their best players in Jose Ramirez. Without him, this team is nothing. I'm going with fading this Cleveland Guardians team and saying to sell them.
MINTY BETS: I'm copying and pasting everything you just said because I'm stocking down on the Cleveland Guardians as well. They've been pretty decent this month, having only lost three games in June. And they are relatively one of the better hitting teams for now.
But their schedule gets a little tricky as they face the Dodgers, the Red Sox, and the Twins about eight times, who, by the way, rank first in their division. So I think it's safe to say I'm gonna fade the Guardians as well.
