Minty Bets and Ariel Epstein break down which MLB teams are trending up and which are trending down this week.

Video Transcript

MINTY BETS: It's time for our Stock Up/Stock Down segment, where we tell you who we're loving and who are fading in the MLB for the time being. I'm Minty Bets. And joining me, as always, is Ariel Epstein. Ariel, why don't you throw out the first pitch and tell us who you are stocking up on?

ARIEL EPSTEIN: Minty, I'm stocking up on the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are only 2 and 1/2 games behind the New York Mets for the NL East lead. The Braves have the second most home wins this season with 26, across all Major League Baseball, not just the National League. The Braves are going to be home for the next three out of four series that they play before the All-Star Break, plus the fact that this Braves team has a top 10 ERA, top 10 bullpen ERA, top 10 OPS through the month of June and July. The Braves are heating up. They're the reigning World Series champions.

I mean, they've got playoff experience. I'm not saying that this team necessarily wins the National League East because the New York Mets do get back Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom, two of their top pitchers. The Braves still have a good shot at making the playoffs. This is why you've got to keep an eye on some of these teams because as soon as that All-Star Break approaches, BetMGM is going to be posting those make the playoff odds again. The Braves are a team that I'm keeping a close eye on.

MINTY BETS: I love that for the Braves. OK. I am stocking up on the Tampa Bay Rays. Now, I know they're third in the AL East right now. But they've always been a sneaky team. They've won the division the last two years in a row because of their excellent pitching and their consistent offense. Right now, they currently rank fourth in ERA and WHIP. And they've got the fifth best opponent batting average. Offensively, they're not that threatening. But they've got an easy schedule coming up in June. They face Baltimore, Cleveland, and Kansas City. So I'll be stocking up on the Rays this month. Ariel, who are you stocking down on and why?

ARIEL EPSTEIN: I'm stocking down on the San Francisco Giants. You were just talking about the Rays and how the Rays do have one of the easier schedules before the All-Star Break. The Giants have one of the toughest. They've got to go up against the San Diego Padres, the Milwaukee Brewers in two out of their last three series before that break in the middle of July. The Giants bullpen also ranks 24th in Major League Baseball. In June and July, this team has a bottom 10 OPS both those months.

This is a really tough National League West Division where the Giants have to try to beat the San Diego Padres, who are in second, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are in first. This Giants pitching rotation just isn't what it was last year, which is what made them one of the best, if not the best, team in Major League Baseball. I'm going to stock down on the San Francisco Giants. So sad to hear that. They are one of my favorite teams.

MINTY BETS: I am stocking down on the Chicago Cubs. Now, this was kind of an obvious pick, right. I mean, the Cubs aren't in their prime. They're almost last in their division. And they've got a tough schedule ahead of them, facing the Dodgers, the Mets, and the Phillies. This pitching staff is lowly ranked. And offensively, they're bottom five in batting average and OPS with runners in scoring position. So we're going to fade the Cubbies in July.

To recap our picks, we're stocking up on the Braves and the Rays. And we're stocking down on the Giants and Cubs. Bet $10 and win $200 in free bets by signing up at betmgm.com/yahoovip. New customers only. Must be 21 and older. Terms apply.
