- We have two MLB games to preview for Wednesday, August 4th, starting with the Orioles and Yankees. The Yankees are minus 278 and the total is 10. Starting for Baltimore is Matt Harvey. He's 6-10 with a 6.2 ERA, 72 strikeouts, and 27 walks. On the mound for New York is Jameson Taillon. He's 7-4 with a 4.11 ERA, 98 strikeouts, and 30 moonwalks.
If you've been betting on baseball this season then you might have heard of Matt Harvey [? day. ?] Every time Matt Harvey starts, its typically profitable to fade him at that day and take the other side, but actually, he's not allowed a single earned run in his last three starts. I'm not going to fade Matt Harvey because there's no value in that. I'm going to look to the total. It's set pretty high at 10 and it's most likely due to Harvey on the mound for Baltimore and the fact that New York's offense has gotten a lot of attention since the addition of Rizzo and Gallo.
This total set high enough for me to be comfortable betting the under. In each of these teams in the last 10 games, they've only seen the total hit 10 or higher in about one or two of them. This is an overreaction so I'll take the under.
Next up, the Astros and Dodgers. The Dodgers are minus 208 the total is 9. On the mound for Houston is Jake Odorizzi. He's 4-5 with a 4.3 ERA, 54 strikeouts, and 19 walks. Starting for LA is Max Scherzer. He's 8-4 with a 2.76 ERA, 147 strikeouts, and 28 walks. I never have luck with a total for Dodgers games so I have to pick a side here.
The Astros lead the league in batting average and on base percentage, while the Dodgers are not too far behind them. LA has typically prevailed over Houston in recent history but betting on the Dodgers moneyline is just a little too pricey for my liking. LA's pitching rotation is solid from start to finish, even if Houston can hit. My money is going to be on the Dodgers' run line.
