Minty Bets is joined by Krysten Peek to discuss the top contenders in College Basketball and whether to buy or sell each as a legitimate national champion on the futures market.
MINTY BETS: With the college football season officially over, it's now time to reset the landscaping of college basketball. I'm Minty Bets joined by Yahoo Sportsbook writer Krysten Peek to buy or sell these top contenders. The Houston Cougars are the favorites to win the national title at plus 600. So Krysten, are you buying or selling this team?
KRYSTEN PEEK: I've got to say, right now, I'm buying the Houston Cougars. Temple snatched Houston's nine-game win streak and dethroned the Cougars as the number one team in the country. There's still a lot to like about this team, led by Marcus Sasser and Jamal Shead in the backcourt. But Houston has a lot of tough match-ups coming. And they're not winning by the margins, I think, that people expect.
Another team that I'm definitely selling are Kansas. The defending champs are in a slump after an embarrassing loss at home to TCU. Kansas lost again to a tough Baylor team Monday night. Their schedule isn't getting any easier with road games at Kentucky and against number five Kansas State, who already beat the Jayhawks earlier this month.
But two teams that I am buying are-- I'm buying everything in Alabama. They are the hottest team in college basketball right now, led by arguably the best freshman in the country, Brandon Miller. He's averaging over 25 points in the last three games and is shooting 46% from 3 on seven attempts per game.
[INAUDIBLE] team runs and pushes the ball quickly and are in a tough match for the next [? four ?] [? points ?] coming up. And the other team I'm buying and that I think are probably the toughest team in the country right now is Purdue. The Boilermakers are on a six-game win streak, and yes, the Big Ten is a competitive conference. But like I said, they're the toughest team in the country right now led by the inside presence of [INAUDIBLE].
MINTY BETS: All right. Now give us a sleeper pick outside the top 10 that you think could make a legitimate run to the Final Four or even win the national title.
KRYSTEN PEEK: It has to be Gonzaga. This happens every year. Mark Few plays a few Power Five teams to start the season, and once conference play starts, they dominate in the wins. The conference play time is right now, and they're playing at Portland and a home game against Santa Clara this week. But there's a lot of talent on that floor, and they've made the tournament for the last 26 consecutive years. So expect them also to make a deep run of it.
