MINTY BETS: Welcome to Yahoo Sportsbook Daily. It's Friday, January 7th, 2022, and I am your betting guide Minty Bets here with Pam Maldonado. We're here to give wagers for the final NFL regular Sunday.
Pam, let's start with you. I know this week can be a little tricky to predict but what have you come up with for us?
PAM MALDONADO: I actually love this week. I may be the only person on the planet who's super excited for week 18. And I love almost every game up on the board. So I was initially going to go with the Raiders, but because we just did a recording for Yahoo, for the Raiders, for Sunday Tonight Football. I'm instead going to pivot and look to the 49ers plus 4 1/2 against the Rams.
This is a great spot for the 49ers, who can lock up a playoff spot with a win. Or they can even lose and still get in if the Saints also lose. Both of these teams are going to be playing at the same time. So they're not going to be able to try to push their way out of it. They're going to have to play strong. They're going to have to fight all the way. San Francisco has won five straight against the Rams. That's got to be good for something.
And the Rams, they can clinch the NFC West with a win or a loss by the Cardinals, playing for a home field in the first round. Well, Stafford, he has turned 11 interceptions in his last eight games after throwing for just four in his first eight games. I don't know if it's the back issue. I don't know if maybe he's not as good as we all thought he was going to be leaving the Lions. But in his first game against the 49ers, Stafford threw for one touchdown, two interceptions, two sacks, and 5.9 yards per pass. That was his second lowest of the season. I see no reason for the same to not happen here.
And you know what? San Francisco, maybe they don't get the win, but I like them to cover this number. Give me the 49ers on the road against the Rams. What do you think?
MINTY BETS: I love that pick. That was actually my second favorite bet on the board before Jared took that as his best bet. So I actually really like the Niners plus 4 1/2. I think that's too many points. The Rams are just too much talent, too many big names. But it seems like their talent is just a little flat this season. So I love that pick.
And I'm sticking with the NFC West, as well. I really like the Seattle Seahawks getting 6 1/2 points over the Arizona Cardinals. It's no doubt that these two teams looked opposite the entire season. Cardinals offense ranks 11th in points per game and eighth in total yards per game. Kyler is an outstanding quarterback with a cannon of an arm. And he's pretty quick on his feet, as well. This defense is ranked 10th in fewest total yards per game allowed and fifth in fewest points per game. They're also tied second in forced fumbles.
Seattle on the other hand, their offense is bottom 10 and total yards per game. They're in the middle of the pack in points per game. And Russ has not quite been the same this season for whatever reason, even before his finger injury. The Seattle defense is known to be one of the worst, allowing the third most total yards per game. But surprisingly they don't allow a whole ton of points. Not like last season.
That all being said, I love Seattle to cover. Why? Because the Cards just need to win and Rams to lose in order for them to take the NFC West. And the Seahawks they actually perform better when people don't expect a lot from them. 6 1/2 points is a lot to give Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll. And for that I will trust them one last time this season. Pam, what do you think about this one?
PAM MALDONADO: Minty, you and I are on the same page here. There's not a lot that I can add because you've already said a whole bunch. But I will try. Arizona, they can absolutely win the NFC West with a win and the Rams loss, both playing for a potential home game. But do the Cardinals even want that? Have you seen their splits? The Cardinals are a better road team. Kyler Murray at home, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions. Kyler Murray away, 15 touchdowns, three interceptions. The Cardinals have five losses this season, four of which have been at home.
So I love the Seahawks getting plus points in what could be the final game that we see with Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll together. Mid-November, Seattle lost by 10. With that, Colt McCoy he threw for 330 yards, two touchdowns. Murray isn't that right now. He is not that passing threat that he could potentially be. Murray, he has thrown for less than seven yards per pass in three straight games. He has thrown over 300 yards just three times this season, rushing more as of late, which is great for the Cardinals. You want to see him healthy once they get into the playoffs. But Seahawks, I'm rolling with Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll, one last time. Give me the dog.
MINTY BETS: I love when we agree. All right, so my last pick. I know this is the week to take a bunch of underdogs because I think we'll see a lot of upsets. But my last pick is going to be New England, minus 6 1/2 over the Dolphins. This game is vital for the Patriots as their chances to take the AFC East is still somewhat alive. Bill Belichick is not going into this thing without giving it his all, especially against a division rival.
The Dolphins, I don't even know what to say about them. Their defense is pretty solid, but Tua looked the worst he's ever looked last week. This is an inconsistent team and I really don't know if they're just in vacation mode already or they want to try to go out with a bang. But I love the Patriots in the spot. I'll bet them up to minus 7 but no higher than that. Do you have an opinion with this game, Pam?
PAM MALDONADO: You know what? I love the Patriots. I have Mac Jones to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. I have Bill Belichick to win Coach of the Year. So I'm rooting for them all the way. I want carnage because I don't want to see Ja'Marr Chase, I don't want to see other players, have an option here. I want what is fresh in your mind. So give me the rookie, give me the better coach. I don't mind this play at all.
MINTY BETS: All right. Well, to recap our picks we've got the Niners plus 4 1/2, Seahawks plus 6 1/2, and Patriots minus 6 1/2.
