Best of lacrosse: Four Oakmont, Monty Tech games to mark on your calendars

Teams are almost halfway through their schedules already this spring, but there are still great showcases ahead. Between the four Gardner-area lacrosse teams, here are the games not to be missed in May.

Boys: Oakmont at Groton-Dunstable, May 2, 4 p.m.

This matchup is interesting because Oakmont will play Groton-Dunstable twice within two days. The Spartans will travel to face their opponent on Thursday, May 2, and have a quick turnaround to play again that following Saturday. Typically, when teams play twice in a season, they have a few weeks in between and time to develop from the first meeting. This one will be fun to see how the teams can adapt quickly to what the other team does.

Boys: Monty Tech at Bay Path, May 3, 4 p.m.

Monty Tech always seems to have good competition against Bay Path, a tech school rival. The Bulldogs defeated Bay Path earlier this season, 9-4, and will face off again later in the schedule.

Girls: Fitchburg at Monty Tech, May 17, 4 p.m.

Monty Tech will take on cross town rival Fitchburg late this season, giving them the chance to gain some momentum and see improvement throughout the season before playing them. The Bulldogs beat Fitchburg last year 6-5, so once again the game could bring a battle.

Girls: Oakmont at Littleton, May 20, 4 p.m.

The Spartans suffered two losses to Littleton in the 2023 season but have experienced returners and fresh faces that are helping to shape the team this year. The game will be a challenge for Oakmont to see where they are at later in the season, leading into the playoff territory if they can work their way to qualifying.
