The 2020 Emmy Awards are coming up on September 20, but given the global pandemic, awards shows are obviously not on their usual schedules or airing the same way this year. The Emmys usually take place in the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater, but host Jimmy Kimmel and executive producers announced that the ceremony will be held virtually.

Since nominees will be filming at home, celebrities can still dress up if they want to, but also I'm kind of hoping everyone will be in cozy pajamas and slippers just to switch it up? Anyway, in preparation for the big night, we're taking a look back at some of the best Emmy's red carpet looks over the decades. Shall we?

This red gown looked stunning on Diane, umm, I mean Shelley, at the '84 Emmy awards. Complete with a chic updo, gold earrings, and puff sleeves, it was definitely an '80s vibe.

The star donned orange high tops with her strapless gown and opera gloves for an unexpected twist.

This strapless off-the-shoulder column gown of Diahann's, had extra drama to it in the form of a beaded fringe neckline. Gorgeous!

Take a tip from Oprah, and match your eyeshadow with your 'fit. Here, she donned a blazer with sequin detailing at the shoulders over a black V-neck dress. She picked up her award this year for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

The British star wore her hair up with a retro wave, and opted for a white long-sleeve embellished gown with a ruffled skirt.

Audrey was the epitome of elegance in '89 with her red-and-black polka dot frock with a statement belt. This same year she also won the Institute for Human Understanding's International Humanitarian Award for her humanitarian work.

The late fashionable comedian wore a monochromatic look when she picked up her Emmy award for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

A sparkly, see-through jumpsuit anyone? That's what Seymour wore to the '91 award show, complete with embellishments and a statement halter neckline.

The X-Files star wore a form-fitting column with a velvet shawl on the red carpet. Later this night she won Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the show.

Brandy brought her floral game to the red carpet in this number with a cowl neckline.

You know I just had to include this Jennifer look from the '99 awards. She wore a sleeveless dress with an embellished bodice and brown skirt, and, of course, her tousled braided hair.

This strapless tulle gown that Halle wore two decades ago still looks so modern and stylish today. She accessorized with a choker and pendant earrings to complete her Emmy's ensemble.

She kept it classic with a long black jacket and knee-length LBD underneath.
