Berks Legion League adds Post 217 for 2024 season

Jan. 19—The Berks County Legion League added the Post 217 Patriots on Wednesday, the baseball league announced Friday.

The Patriots, which feature players from the Brandywine Heights and Oley Valley school districts, are back in the league for the first time since 2009. Oley Valley and Topton both fielded teams in the league before moving to the Schuylkill-Berks Baseball League in 2010 and later merging into one team.

Post 217 joins Boyertown, Daniel Boone, Exeter, Norchester, Reading, Shillington, Twin Valley, West Lawn and Kutztown in the 10-team Berks league. The Cougars returned to the league in November after playing in the Schuylkill-Berks league from 2010-2023.

The Schuylkill-Berks league dropped their affiliation with American Legion Baseball following the 2022 season and played last year as an independent league. The league announced on Wednesday that it had merged with the Lebanon league and will continue as the independently-operated United Baseball League in 2024.
