Bennedict Mathurin surpassed Chris Duarte for Pacers’ rookie 3-point record

Indiana Pacers rookie Bennedict Mathurin neared a 30-point performance on Wednesday and etched his name in some team history in the process during a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Mathurin produced 29 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in 40 minutes of work in the 149-136 loss. He went 11-of-21 from the field and made one 3-pointer in his 12th start as the Pacers dropped to 33-44 on the season.

The sixth pick surpassed teammate Chris Duarte for the most 3s in a single season in team history with 95. Duarte made 94 3-pointers last season to set the record, which topped the previous mark of 86 by Šarūnas Jasikevičius in 2006.

Mathurin is averaging 16.6 points, four rebounds and 1.4 assists on 31.9% shooting from 3-point range in 73 games this season. He is second in scoring among all rookies and is one of four first-year players this season with multiple 30-point games (2).

His play this season certainly has the organization excited about his future on the court. He represents a large part of the future in Indianapolis and should be a lock to make the All-Rookie first team this season.
