The Cincinnati Bengals made a handful of roster moves as training camp got underway on Wednesday.

What’s interesting about the moves is that they hit on every little aspect of the team. Some injured players were reactivated, while they also waived a player and added a free agent.

Heck, they even added to the coaching staff in the process, too.

While Joe Burrow’s sudden surgery to remove his appendix dominates the headlines, these are little housekeeping moves teams make to reinforce areas and make sure the roster stays healthy throughout the entire summer.

Here’s a quick list of the moves.

Hired Fredi Knighten

The team announced the arrival of Knighten as an offensive assistant.

Cincinnati’s website penned his biography for fans:

“Knighten, 28, joins Cincinnati after spending the 2021 season as an offensive analyst at Utah State University. Prior to his time at Utah State, he was running backs coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2019-20, where he also coached quarterbacks in ’20. He previously served as a graduate assistant for three seasons, including time at Florida State University (2018) and the University of Maryland (’16-17).”

Waived CB John Brannon

The Bengals waived some cornerback depth, which is notable as the depth got an upgrade this offseason. Brannon was a guy the team added to the main roster from the practice squad right after the Super Bowl.

Signed QB Drew Plitt

The Bengals added former college free agent Drew Plitt in order to have another guy who can take reps with Burrow out. He’ll join Brandon Allen and Jake Browning. Plitt was at the team’s rookie minicamp as a tryout in May.

G Alex Cappa removed from PUP list

This is the biggest one for the Bengals, as Cappa was added on a big deal in free agency to upgrade the spot at right guard. He had a core injury and the team intends to ease him back into things.

HB Samaje Perine removed from PUP list

Perine comes back just in time to battle with Chris Evans for that top depth spot right behind Joe Mixon.
