After planning for his return for Game 4, the Nets have announced that Ben Simmons will not play after suffering a setback.

Simmons has been dealing with back issues for several weeks, and the Nets have continued to push back his debut.

SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley reported that Simmons was on track for Game 4 barring a setback - and that's exactly what happened. Simmons told the Nets he awoke with back soreness on Sunday, according to ESPN.

The Nets are down 3-0 in their first round series against the Boston Celtics. Simmons has not yet played this season.

Simmons had been running and shooting in practice without pain for over a week and a half, and was cleared for contact ahead of Game 2.
