Bemidji State ties Missouri Western State as Maria Stocke equalizes late

Sep. 1—ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Bemidji State women's soccer team had to fight for it, but the Beavers began the 2023 season with a point.

Facing Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, Mo., No. 9 BSU equalized on an 83rd-minute Maria Stocke penalty kick, notching a 1-1 tie to open this year's slate.

Bemidji State trailed after Corrine Stewart scored for MWSU in the 17th minute, and it took until deep into the second half for the Beavers to strike back. Stocke was fouled inside the box and stepped up to the penalty spot, burying the first PK of her career.

Junior goalkeeper Edie Frantzen recorded two saves for BSU. The Griffons' Keeley Kroonenberg stopped three shots.
