Bemidji State football adds Aug. 29 home game against Michigan Tech

Feb. 6—BEMIDJI — The Bemidji State football team will begin the 2024 season at home. The Beavers will host Michigan Tech at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, in a nonconference matchup at Chet Anderson Stadium.

It is BSU's first regular-season nonconference game since 2011, when the Beavers faced then-NAIA member Minot State.

Bemidji State and Michigan Tech matched up a lot leading up to the 1993 season, as they played 30 times between 1955 and 1993. Michigan Tech has won the last four meetings in the series, while BSU is 5-9 at home in the series. The last meeting in 1993 was played in Bemidji, with Michigan Tech claiming the 52-23 victory. The last win for the Beavers was in 1989, winning at home by a score of 26-14.

Michigan Tech went 5-5 last season and 3-2 on the road. They played current NSIC school Minot State, claiming the 37-3 victory, and former NSIC opponent Upper Iowa, winning by 34-31. The Huskies play in the GLIAC, which features football powerhouses Ferris State and Grand Valley State. Against those teams last year, Michigan Tech lost to Ferris State 35-21 and Grand Valley State 44-13.

Bemidji State is coming off its third straight trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. BSU hosted its first-ever NCAA second round playoff game against Central Washington. The Beavers opened the playoffs by picking up a big 10-3 win at Texas Permian Basin.
