Bemidji gets tying goal, nipped by East Grand Forks in OT

Jan. 2—EAST GRAND FORKS — The Bemidji High School boys hockey team thought it pulled off another stunner.

Joey Fankhanel scored the tying goal for the Lumberjacks with just over a minute and a half left. However, Tucker Lovejoy's second goal of the night pushed East Grand Forks to a 5-4 win in overtime.

Taevon Welle scored first for Bemidji before Brock Schultz tied it. Fankhanel and Lovejoy each scored in the second period. Ephram Boucher put the Jacks ahead 3-2 before back-to-back Green Wave tallies set up the game-tying goal from Fankhanel.

Tate Metcalf stopped 32 shots, including a penalty shot. Ryan Rockstad made 18 saves for EGF.
