Bemidji drops pivotal Section 8AA battle against Alexandria

Jan. 5—ALEXANDRIA — The Bemidji High School girls hockey team found itself on the wrong side of another close Section 8AA game.

Alexandria scored three goals in the third period to beat the Lumberjacks 6-3 at the Runestone Community Center. Jersey Severson, Kennedy Ellingson, Morgan Aure and Julia Doherty combined for 11 points on five goals in the win.

Sammy Nistler scored to give Bemidji a 1-0 lead 4:32 into the first period. Severson and Ellingson scored for the Cardinals before Megan Berg tied the game at 2-2 in the first.

Severson scored the lone goal in the second period, then Aure put Alexandria ahead 4-2 to start the third period. Naomi Johnson sliced the BHS deficit in half before Tayler Treat and Emma Ramstorf scored for Alexandria late in the third.

The Jacks (10-8) outshot the Cardinals (9-6) 32-28. Lexi Metcalf stopped 29 shots for Alexandria, while Payton Weidemann made 22 saves for Bemidji.
