Bemidji closes out team season at Section 8AA finals in Brainerd

Feb. 24—BRAINERD — The Bemidji High School boys swimming and diving team closed out its season at the Section 8AA finals on Saturday in Brainerd.

The Lumberjacks compiled 100 team points at the competition, placing ninth among nine teams competing. Brainerd (320), Sartell (307) and Buffalo/Maple Lake (271) rounded out the top three teams. BHS did not advance any swimmers to the state meet but did showcase a number of impressive performances in individual events.

Bemidji had a pair of fourth-place finishes to lead the way. Moses Son took fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (53.31), and Daniel Scherling placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.99).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Son, Scherling, Tanner Johnson and Adam Allery placed sixth with a time of 1:33.55. The 400 free relay team of Son, Allery, Johnson and Zach Roberts took eighth in 3:30.23.

In the 500 free, Johnson took 11th at 5:11.5. Brayden Anderson followed Scherling in the 100 breaststroke, also placing 11th with a mark of 1:05.71.

Crockett Puschinsky finished 13th in diving with a score of 260.4. Allery placed 15th in the 50 free with a time of 23.96.
