Bemidji advances 6 individual boys to state wrestling tournament

Feb. 24—MOORHEAD — The Bemidji High School boys wrestling team had a successful day at the Section 8-3A individual tournament in Moorhead, sending six wrestlers through to the Class 3A state meet.

Gabe Morin (121 pounds), Alec Newby (152) and Parker Orvik (285) earned bracket championships to punch their tickets to St. Paul. Morin and Newby won their championship matches by decision, while Orvik earned his via a first-period pin.

Gavin Osborn (127), Brody Castonguay (133) and Nick Strand (145) advanced to state as second-place finishers. Castonguay and Strand won true second-place matches by fall to earn their tickets to state.

Oscar Hanks (sixth, 107); Casey Sisneros (fourth, 114); Lincoln Schmitt (fourth, 139); Talen Fairbanks (sixth, 160); Ricky Wuori Jr. (third, 172); Kallen Littler (did not place, 189); and Nehemiah Schwinghammer (fourth, 215) also competed for the Lumberjacks but did not advance to state.
