It’s hard to imagine any parent not being over the moon if their child won an Olympic gold medal, but few could match the enthusiasm of Zoi Sadowski-Synnott’s father Sean – if you’re judging by their willingness to drop expletives on live television.

After Zoi captured New Zealand’s first-ever gold at the Winter Olympics, a reporter asked Sean how proud he was, to which he paused for a brief moment before laying out what, to him, seemed obvious.

“I’m pretty f—ing excited, to be honest,” he said.

No one’s calling you a liar, Sean.

It happens all the time in sports, especially in the wake of incredible moments.

Ryan O’Reilly ripped an F-bomb in front of Scott Oake just minutes removed from winning the Stanley Cup in 2019.

“Once we got that lead, we knew we were gonna f—ing get it,” said the Conn Smythe winner after a Game 7 win.

In November of 2021, Luka Doncic cursed multiple times on air after hitting an epic step-back three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat the Boston Celtics.

Sometimes the magnitude of the achievement just gets to you and it slips out. In both O’Reilly and Doncic’s cases, they immediately apologized and smiled knowing they’d pulled a rare no-no on live TV. But Sean was just being honest, what did he need to apologize for? He let it rip with full intention without thinking twice. And that’s what separates him from these two world-class athletes.

If you ask Zoi, some liquid courage might’ve been a factor.

"Yeah, I think really that he had a few too many drinks at that point, but you can't really blame him, it was Waitangi Day in New Zealand (a national holiday) and his daughter just won the Olympics so..!" she told Reuters.

The women’s slopestyle snowboarder is only 20, meaning this could be far from her last Olympic Games.

Here’s hoping we’ll see some more of Sean’s “excitement” in 2026.
