Beavers fall at SMSU to start 1st road trip of 2024, B.J. Davis scores 21

Jan. 5—MARSHALL — The Bemidji State men's basketball team took a loss in its first game of 2024.

The Beavers faced Southwest Minnesota State on Friday in Marshall, and the Mustangs had the edge in both halves en route to an 82-65 win.

SMSU (8-6, 5-3 NSIC) utilized a 44-point opening frame to take control. The Mustangs held the lead from the 6:19 mark of the first half to the end of the contest and widened the deficit to as many as 21 points.

Point guard B.J. Davis led BSU (8-5, 4-3 NSIC) with 21 points, followed by John Sutherland with 13. Dalton Albrecht chipped in 11.

Dunwa Omot led all scorers with 23 points for SMSU. Mason Lund provided supplementary scoring with 15.
