Bears WR Darnell Mooney takes shot at previous coaching staff

The Chicago Bears have ushered in a new regime this offseason — with general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus — one that many hope will help get this franchise back on track.

At this point, there’s optimism with the new coaching staff, which certainly benefits from the end of the Matt Nagy era.

Players have been praising Eberflus and the new coaching staff, pointing to the new culture and accountability in place. Add wide receiver Darnell Mooney to that list of players who’s a fan of the new staff.

Mooney explained that it’s “night and day” with this new coaching staff under Eberflus, where there are clear expectations and standards in place. And it’s hard not to see it as a shot at Nagy.

“It’s smooth. Everybody knows where to go, when to do something, what’s the expectation, what’s the standard,” Mooney told Red Line Radio of what’s different. “You know what you’re getting out of the next day. It’s not coming in and like, ‘Uh, what do we got going on?'”

Mooney said there’s more organization under Eberflus, where expectations are clear and things are operating smoothly, an indication that they weren’t before.

“Everybody knows exactly what the coaches want,” Mooney said.

While expectations for the Bears aren’t high heading into the 2022 season, you can’t underestimate the power of good coaching. And so far, Eberflus has certainly made a positive impression on his team.
