Week 16's Sunday night showdown between the Bears and Chiefs won't have nearly as much juice as it could've had if Chicago defeated the Packers in Week 15 and kept their playoff hopes alive, but there's still an uncomfortable storyline for Bears fans that will make this game similar to watching a scary movie. You know the feeling: you don't want to watch; you want to look away, but you just can't.
Every time Mahomes drops back to pass, Bears fans will wonder what could've been. But they'll also rally behind Trubisky with the hope he'll exorcise the demons of the 2017 NFL draft. The one that Bears fans are constantly reminded of, how Chicago could've had their pick of Mahomes and Deshaun Watson that year.
But Pace went with Trubisky. He traded up for him. He pushed all of Chicago's football equity to the center of the draft poker table and screamed 'all in!'
Sunday night will be the first time Trubisky's squared off against Mahomes, who's in the midst of a second-straight MVP-worthy season. He won the award in 2018 and if it wasn't for Lamar Jackson's miraculous season this year, he might've been the front-runner again.
Meanwhile, there remains doubt whether Trubisky will ever become a quality starting quarterback.
Week 16 is a tale of two teams going in opposite directions, and it all began with the Trubisky pick.
Maybe this game is destined to end with one, too.
