Bears tackle Charles Leno Jr. celebrates NFC North title with on-field marriage proposal

Sunday was a momentous day for Charles Leno Jr. and the Chicago Bears.

The Bears clinched their first NFC North title since 2010 in the most satisfying of ways, vanquishing Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field, 24-17.

After the game, the Bears offensive lineman decided to gamble his good feeling with the time-honored tradition of putting his girlfriend on the spot at a sporting event in front of TV cameras and thousands of fans.

Leno goes for the public marriage proposal

As some of his teammates huddled in a postgame prayer circle, Leno beckoned his girlfriend to midfield, armed with an engagement ring.

Fortunately for Leno, his confidence paid off when his now-glowing fiancée beamed for the camera with her new jewelry as Leno’s teammates celebrated the successful wedding proposal.

Public wedding proposals always come with risk and a significant amount of pressure for the person being proposed to. Unless the proposer is extremely confident that the answer is yes, it’s generally not a good move.

But Leno’s read was right, and now his big day got even bigger.

Congratulations to the future Leno family.
