BASKETBALL: Lady Demons fight back, earn home win over Lexington

Feb. 5—The Lady Demons fought back.

After defeating Lexington two other times in 2024, the Lady Demons hoped the third time was not the charm for Lexington on Friday. The teams met in Dibble's gym, and the Lady Demons had to claw their way back from a halftime deficit to secure a 59-45 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Dibble used a big second half to secure the victory, nearly doubling its first-half point total. The Lady Demons outscored the Lady Bulldogs 39-18 in the final half to secure the 14-point win.

Lexington went to halftime with momentum after outscoring Dibble 19-8 in the second quarter and finishing the half on a 16-2 run. Dibble held an 18-11 lead in the second quarter but went to halftime facing a 27-20 deficit.

But the Lady Demons were not out of the game, and they put together a big third quarter. After scoring 20 points through the first two quarters, Dibble scored 26 points in the third quarter and outscored Lexington 26-8.

In a game of runs, Dibble went on a pair of long runs in the third quarter to take command of the game. The first run of the quarter came with Dibble trailing 29-21 and came in the form of an 11-0 run to give the Lady Demons a 32-29 advantage.

Kaylei Clanton and Macy Lee buried 3-pointers before Triniti Black made a basket and free throw that gave the Lady Demons the lead. Clanton then hit a pair of free throws to put Dibble ahead by three.

The second run came after Lexington tied the game at 32 and came in the form of a 10-0 run that put Dibble ahead by double digits. A basket and free throw from Lee put the Lady Demons ahead by 10 points.

In the span of one quarter, Dibble took a deficit of seven points and made it a lead of 11 points heading to the final period. The Lady Demons continued to take care of business from there.

The trio of Lee, Black and Clanton combined for 43 points in the win.

Lee led the way with 18 points. Black added 15 points, and Clanton put up 10 points in the win.

KK Caywood, Bella Greene, Shilah McGaha, Daliyah Fuentes and Macy Merrick also scored for Dibble.
