BASKETBALL: Lady Chicks earn road win at Blanchard

Jan. 10—BLANCHARD — The Lady Chicks went on the road and earned a win.

Chickasha traveled to Blanchard for a game against the Lady Lions on Tuesday, and Chickasha took care of business. The Lady Chicks gained major separation in the fourth quarter, earning their second win in three games with a 41-29 victory over the Lady Lions.

The game was close throughout the majority of the game, but the Lady Chicks began to get some extra separation in the second half. Chickasha led by two after the first quarter, four at halftime and six after three quarters before winning by 12.

The Lady Chicks led 22-21 in the third quarter when they started to gain that important separation. Chickasha ended the third quarter on a 6-1 scoring run to take a 28-22 advantage to the final quarter.

And Chickasha continued to carry the momentum in the fourth quarter, opening the period with 10 of the quarter's first 12 points.

In the 10-2 run to open the fourth quarter, Serenity Golightly and Mea Ginn hit 3-pointers to go along with a Channing Haywood basket and two Golightly free throws. Golightly was the team's lone double-digit scorer and the game's leading scorer.

That 10-2 run to begin the quarter and 16-3 run overall pushed Chickasha's lead to 14 points, and the Lady Chicks kept Blanchard from making any big run back in the game.

The win was important for a team embracing improvement.

"We have started to embrace being a physical, intelligent [and] fundamental basketball team. We had a lot of kids play well tonight," head coach Jace Johnson said. "Addi Ferguson stepped up [and] played a great game tonight.

"We have to continue to improve each day to be where/who we want to be come playoff time."
