BASKETBALL: Dibble teams sweep championship games, earn titles

Jan. 9—The Dibble basketball teams ended last week on a high note.

The Lady Demons and Demons competed in Davis' Arbuckle Winter Classic last week and had successful tournaments. The two teams put together a combined 6-0 tournament and managed to sweep the tournament titles.

Both teams went 3-0 and managed to knock off one ranked opponent apiece en route to their titles. The Lady Demons defeated a ranked team in the championship game, and the Demons defeated a ranked team in the semifinals.


The Lady Demons picked up two blowout victories and a close victory between the two blowout victories.

Dibble began its run through the tournament with a blowout victory over Velma-Alma, and a close win over Lexington sent the Lady Demons to the championship game. An unbeaten and ranked 2A team in Davis awaited the Lady Demons.

Davis entered the tournament ranked 11th in Class 2A and without a loss, but the team exited the game with a loss after the Lady Demons rolled to a 62-44 victory.

Dibble blew open the game in the second quarter after leading 15-9 after the first quarter. The Lady Demons outscored their opponent 24-5 in the second quarter and held off the opponent to secure the title.

Macy Lee, Kailyn Caywood and Kaylei Clanton all had double-digit points for the Lady Demons.


As for the Demons, they took down Marietta in the first round before knocking off a ranked Velma-Alma team in the semifinals. The Comets entered the tournament ranked 14th in Class A but could not take down the Demons.

Dibble ended up playing Lexington in the championship game and also gained a good amount of separation in the second quarter. With the game tied at 15, Dibble ended the first half on a 13-0 run to lead by 13 at halftime of a 55-45 win.

Lexington made a late run in the fourth quarter, but the Demons stood tall and picked up the win. Trey Green and Trey Ott had double-digit points for the Demons.
