Baseball: Davenport's grand slam powers Troup to run rule win over Overton

Mar. 15—TROUP — It didn't take long for Troup to gets its bats warmed up in Thursday's 18-8 (5 innings, mercy rule) decision over the visitors from Overton.

Carson Davenport launched a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, which enabled the Tigers to take an 8-0 lead after one complete, in a contest that the Maroon and White led from start to finish. Davenport went 2-4 and drove in four runs for the night.

Also going 2-4 was Ty Lovelady. Lovelady tallied three RBI in the game.

Caden Graves also had a multi-hit game. He recorded two hits in four trips to the dish and drove in a run.

Meanwhile, Payton Elliott bashed a double and drove in a couple or runs while Kash Hardy singled and collected an RBI.

Troup hitters racked up a dozen hits in the game.

Hardy hurled a complete game in recording the victory. He allowed five earned runs off of three hits. Hardy walked four and struck out three Mustangs.

The Tigers will return to conference play at 5 p.m. Friday by visiting Elysian Fields. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Troup will play Waskom in Troup.
