New baseball bracketology projects Auburn to host a regional

The Auburn Tigers dropped their opening matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats in the SEC Tournament. Despite the loss, it doesn’t seem to damper their hopes of hosting an NCAA Regional at Plainsman Park.

According to D1 Baseball, the Tigers are still in line to be one of the 16 teams to host a four-team regional field in the chase for Omaha.

Their field would consist of Coastal Carolina, Florida State, and College of Charleston. The Tigers would face Charleston in the first game in the No. 1-4 seeded matchup.

Other SEC teams projected to host a regional matchup include the LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Auburn finished the season with a 37-19 overall record and 16-13 conference record. The good news about hosting a regional for Auburn is they won 22 of 31 games played at home this year.

The team’s top batter was Sonny DiChiara, who is batting .379 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs. He would finish second in doubles with 15 to Kason Howell’s 16 two-baggers.
